Who we serve
ICAN of Washington, Inc. is a private practice located in Bethesda, MD, serving Montgomery County and parts of Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. ICAN of Washington provides individual and group therapy sessions to children and adolescents with a variety of developmental delays or disorders. Additionally, we run Applied Behavior Analysis programs with emphasis on B.F. Skinner's analysis of Verbal Behavior in your home, which involves training parents, home instructors, behavior technicians and teachers.

Apraxia/Dyspraxia of Speech: Apraxia of speech is sometimes called verbal apraxia, developmental apraxia of speech, or verbal dyspraxia. “Praxis” means planned movement. A child with the diagnosis of apraxia of speech has difficulty programming and planning speech movements. |
Articulation Disorders Speech sound errors which do not change in different word contexts. These errors occur during production of speech sounds and/or in single word or phrases. |
Dysfluent Speech/Stuttering: Stuttering is a communication disorder in which the flow of speech is broken by repetitions (li-li-like this), prolongations (lllllike this), or abnormal stoppages (no sound) of sounds and syllables. |
Reading Difficulties / Dyslexia Children with reading disorders have difficulties with accuracy, speed, and/or comprehension to the extent that the impairment interferes with academic achievement or activities of daily life. |
ADD/ADHD Attention Deficit Disorder (also known as ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are terms used to describe patterns of behavior that appear most often in school-aged children. |
Expressive Language Disorder Children with expressive language disorders have difficulty with verbal expression, such as putting words together to formulate thoughts or answering simple or complex questions. |
Executive Functioning Disorder The Executive Function System is one of several systems in the brain. It is responsible for higher order processes that enable us to plan, sequence, initiate and sustain our behavior toward some goal, incorporate feedback and make adjustments. |
Asperger’s Syndrome Some regard Asperger’s Syndrome as "high functioning" Autism. In general, these individuals may have some features of autism. |
